APPLICATION DIRECTIONS
for Nova Spa and Penetrating Spa Cleanser
For best results, we suggest that before putting Nova Spa in the spa water, the existing contaminant build-up in the spa system should be removed by using our Penetrating Spa Cleanser product.
note: If you are using Spa Magic currently in your spa, drain and clean your spa. Nova Spa Water Conditioner may not be compatible with Spa Magic and could cause water quality issues.

Step One
Penetrating Spa Cleanser Application
- Remove the spa filter cartridge from the filter housing and store in a safe place during the cleaning process. It is recommend that the filter also be cleaned with the Penetrating Spa Cleanser or replaced if necessary.
- Use the existing spa water if there is less than 5 ppm chlorine or bromine. If chlorine or bromine exists at 5 ppm or greater, drain spa and refill. Chlorine and bromine will kill the microbes and the cleanser will not work. Pour in the full bottle of the Penetrating Spa Cleanser.
- Circulate the spa water with the heater off or temperature set below 75 degrees for a minimum of 8 hours per day for two days. Do not use with hot water. Temperatures over 75 degrees will kill the microbes. Close the air jets to reduce foaming during the cleaning process. The foam can be used to clean the surface above the water line.
- After two days, run the pumps on high to flush the plumbing for 10 minutes. Drain the water, and refill the spa with fresh water. This is a good time to remove the jets and clean them. Run the pumps again on high setting. This will help flush the remaining contaminants out of the plumbing. Drain and refill the spa. Set your temperature setting to the desired temperature.
- Clean both sides of the spa cover with Clorox Clean-Up or similar product and water. If the cover is cracked or torn, we recommend it be replaced. VERY IMPORTANT: If your spa cover has a zipper closure it is important to unzip the cover, BUT DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER, because it is difficult to put back on. Flush the inside of the cover with your garden hose. The inside of spa covers have been known to harbor mold and bacteria, all of which drip from condensation through the cover back into the spa water.
- We recommend using the Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser for cleaning the spa filters. Do not use chemical filter cleaners or any household cleaners that have chemicals in them. The chemicals may react with the water and cause an odor or cloud the water in the tub.
- Do not use the spa during the contaminant cleaning process.
Step Two
Nova Spa Application
- Fill the spa with fresh water. Heat the water to a temperature of 90 degrees or more. Check alkalinity. For best results, total alkalinity should be between 80 and 120. See the tip section for information on raising and lowering alkalinity.
- Check the pH to ensure it is in the range of 7.8 to 8.4. (8.0 is optimum). You do not need to check your pH on a regular basis because Nova Spa will maintain the pH at normal levels automatically. However, because water can be different in different areas, we recommend that first time users of Nova Spa check the pH of the water for the first 2 weeks to make sure that it maintains the pH at normal level.
- Add 16-ounce of Nova Spa Water Conditioner for each 500 gallons of spa water.
- If you use your spa frequently (4-5 times a week), clean its filter every week. If the usage is less, clean the filter less often. We recommend rinsing the filter with hot water and soaking it in Penetrating Spa Cleanser with cold water and then rinse withcold water for a thorough cleaning.
- Add another bottle of Nova Spa to the spa water every three months.
- Drain and replace the spa water at least once a year. We recommend using the Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser every 6 months for best results, but at minimum once a year (drain and refill) to remove built up contaminants from the tub shell and plumbing.
